Interview With Nick Hood

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The client requested imagery of a lion be used in the identity. That lead me towards a heraldic look and feel utilizing a shield.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

I went through a conceptualization process with a pencil and paper, then scanned the best ideas to be illustrated in vector art. Once rendered, i continued to play around and evolve the concept till i arrived at something i liked.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Knockout, Bodoni, and Times were utilized

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

We were going for a flavor of luxury. Gold and black played well into that motif.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

This is a very early sketch where the concept of the logo came from.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

From start to finish, it took almost a month.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Illustrating in a very simplistic fashion while upholding the look of heraldry was somewhat challenging.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

There really isn’t anything i would change about it.
