Interview With Christoph Schubert

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The idea: I love magnets on the fridge.

Endmark is the major name finding company in Germany, located in Cologne. And the companies name, endmark, contains the part “mark”. Marke is the german term for Brand, and the centralized arrangement of the circle and the M is … classy?

Two days before I had the honor to get a letter paper of the pope (yes, he poe in italy, Vatican). The letter paper contains only his crest, on the top, in the middle (center aligned). And not a single word. And this massive centralization was a good inspiration for this logo. From the graphical point of view.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

I did this with Adobe Illustrator. It was more work in head than with software.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

I started with thinking while driving in my car, then went on scribbling on paper, and computer, and paper, and computer, … so – I try to stay independent from tools.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Ah, the interesting questions begin here. The typeface is Doric Bold. Leading was done by hand, completely, and on the M and A there are some smaller modifications of the original letters.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

By trial and error. The color is Blue 072 (Pantone), and black.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

That’s easy, as I have the files all archived: I started with digital sketches on December 10th, on January 27th I did the final artwork.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

I did very different logo trials, but it was necessary to grab the moment.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

No. Still like it.
