Interview With Jeiji
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
Messing around with an old logo concept I dropped months ago, I just kept fooling around with the shapes. Originally this was to be “PYLON”, with each pylon being placed to make the letters “P,Y…” and that’s as far as I could get, so I was like “MYEAAH, whatever.” I came back to it just for fun, and started messing with placement. Kinda’ saw some teeth thing happening, but then I saw a that the pylons came to make a giant “W”, and a little “M” inside! It was priceless. So I kept flipping it around, seeing what combinations of “W” and “M” names would work for a brand name. The biggest problem I had was thinking about what professions I could include that used pylons… I didn’t want to make it a name, because names are less likely to be marketable; not everyone wants to use a made-up name as their brand, or has that very name. So I tried to make it a little more broad, and I came up with “Whatever Men”. It could be any form of construction, and construction uses a lot of what? Pylons. It’s how they mark their “territory”, and distinguishes the work they do in public. Also, if a wandering construction company mozies a lil’ too close, he will be warned: This is “Whatever” turf, homes, step off.
