Interview With Ben Meyrick
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
It’s a re-design of their current logo that I made for fun and isn’t actually in use, though I might contact them and see if they were interested in a refreshed look.
I’ve always thought Welsh Water had a strong logo design but I think that it’s starting to look a bit out dated. I came up with this concept whilst I was taking a shower ironically.
The new design still has the two W’s but much more subtle this time, and it makes use of some nice gradients based off the original colour scheme.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Adobe Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I made a rough sketch on paper, which I scanned and then drew over and refined in illustrator.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Redring 1969.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
It’s just a slightly modified version of the original colour scheme of their actual logo.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Getting the river / w’s curves to feel natural and grow wider towards the end was pretty difficult and took a lot of tweaking.
