Interview With Shaun McElvaine
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
This logo concept utilizes the letters VI of vinyl Impression in a subtle way. the internal lightning bolt consists of an I sitting on top of a triangle that represents the V. The combination of these letters together creates a lightning bolt which reflects the energy and the dynamic nature of Vinyl Impression. Vi is a 3 year old business and is made up of a young and creative team.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
We started out with various key terms that we wanted to include which contained the use of a subtle salute to VI. Following this list generation we drew sketches of elements that we wanted to include before creating varying options to further narrow down.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
The full logo uses Ubuntu which provides a nice balance to the circular emblem by using this square type face
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
The brand colour has been this pink for a long time due to its nature at attracting the female market to buy the interior design decals that we supply for the home. Not only this but the pink effectively communicates energy, warmth, assertiveness and creativity.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
1 month from start to finish.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Starting. With so many avenues to take we found that the biggest challenge was beginning the process and refining as we went along. When we come to another rebrand we will be less hesitant to start. As Hemmingway said ‘the first draft of anything is always s***’
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
As the business evolves it will need to change as our markets shift out of the domestic and into the commercial space, but where the business currently is it suits us well.
