Interview With Andrei Gadoiu

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

ViewFlux is about collaboration and design feedback, so the mark had to do something with it. Considering this, I chose to create a simple mark that is joining the V (first letter) & comment bubble (visual feedback).

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

The logo was designed using Xara Designer Pro X, which is great and very simple to use while creating logos.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

It all started on paper. After filling a couple of sheets with different logo concepts, I came across this idea. Sketched it in a few different ways and then got to the final concept. From there it was all about execution and construction on the computer.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

The font is custom made and it was created with the purpose of fitting the newly designed mark. It is hard (if not impossible) to find an existing font that fits a mark. I wanted something with the same thickness as the mark and since there was none, I chose to create one myself.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Since the logo is very simple in terms of shapes, I have decided to make it monochrome, just to keep it as simple as possible. It’s only being used in white (on orange, which is the branding color) or black (on light grey).

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

One of the sheets contain the initial logo sketches.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

Creating the logo was a very long process, due to the initial requests. It had to be simple and also work as an app icon. After 2 weeks of hard work, we have decided that this one was the concept to go for.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Creating a mark that represents the product, works as an app icon and also as a favicon is a tough challenge. But after the concept was clear, all these problems got instantly solved.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

Right now the logo should work as it is, but any feedback is welcome. :)
