Interview With Bold Perspective

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The client asked for a professional, creative logo that portrayed a masculine image. We wanted to create a strong geometric and typographic logo to capture that image.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator CS5.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Definitely started on pen and paper as always. See some of our conceptual sketches below.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Avenir Light.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

The client requested purple. We chose a sophisticated tone accompanied by black and white for strength, versatility and clarity.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

There were some really fun concepts we went through, but with the name being so long, (“photography” had to be included) the number of different layouts we were able to use was fairly limited – which is why we ended up going the direction we did.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

The design process took place over the course of several days.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

The biggest challenge was definitely conveying a professional and masculine image not only with “Taylor” being a unisex name, but purple also presenting a bit of a challenge as well.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I think we effectively met the goals of the client and created a very strong, memorable logo. We wouldn’t change anything about it.

We also built in a subtle, abstract camera shape between the “L” and the “R” of “TAYLOR” using the “O” as the lens. See if you can spot it.
