Interview With Greg Cuellar

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

My mother is an antiques/vintage collectibles seller on ETSY.com. One of the main things she deals and collects is antique pottery. One of her favorite pieces in her collection has the same shape as this logo…and is from the Arts and Crafts era. I realized I could not only see an “S” in the shape of the vase, but its shape was very arts and crafts era inspired.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

This is one of those ideas that just popped into my head. There was no sketching involved…which my professors would kill me for.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

This is a custom font I created to go along with the “S” shape created by the vase.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

This is the color of the vase…and the dominate color in my mother’s collection.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

It took me about 3 hours.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Making the lines of the vase just right to imitate the pottery I was inspired by.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I might adjust the color some. I think that for the different seasons of the years, which directs what kind of antiques my mother sells, I can put objects that represent the season in the vase. That makes it extremely versatile…which I like.
