Featured LogoInterview With John Harfield
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
The client wanted a fun, fresh and surfy feel to the design. I played around with type faces, waves and huts and came out with the final solution through lots of trial and error.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Pencil and then Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Yep, started by drawing out the design and then illustrating in on my Mac.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Lobster 1.4.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
What’s shown here is the black and white edit, but the colour version has blue for the wave, brown for the hut and green typography.
Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?
It was great fun messing around with the font and creating bespoke joins.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
3 days going to-and-fro with the client.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Getting the shape of the wave so both myself and the client were happy!
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
There were a few things I would have liked to have done…but the client is always right :)
