Interview With Zisidesign
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
I read the clients brief “In the process of opening a cake shop selling home made fresh cakes and my signature cakes are going to be colorful and creative cup cakes.” So I decide to make a minimal silhouette illustration of a cupcake.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Adobe Illustrator CS3, Mac PowerBook G4.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Sometimes I use pen, pencil and the scanner. For this logo I use only the computer. I have some photos from the internet about how the cupcake look like and some vectors from other designers. I have these elements as a reference and not actually use them cause I made something new. It’s like drawing after see some elements to have an idea the shape of what you want to draw.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Try to use free fonts. This time Quill, http://www.ffonts.net/Quill.font
When I can donate. Website fonts is a great resource for free fonts.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Usually cakes are brown, but cupcakes are colorful. So use the brown and pick a blue from color guide. This was one color combination. Generally I use 2 or 3 colors, unless the client wants something specific. The most color combinations made with brown as a center color. Some ideas come as a look other entries in the competition.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
All the contest last 4 days and I submit entries till the last moment. If fact the winning design surprises me cause it has now rating points (stars) at first place.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Totally there was 94 design ideas from 9 designers! All of them what to win. So it was hard. Personally I don’t like to compete with anyone for anything, but its the only way to take the job, or work as a freelancer. The other thing with the bid jobs not think its work. Anyone bids on lowest price possible.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
I won’t change it cause I have a lot other different concepts. Personally I like these proposals more but the client have the final word.
my own choices, and these was rejected from the client:
