Interview With Justin Siddons
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
It was created for a Rock, Paper, Scissors Game entitled “Throwdown”. I wanted to create a realistic looking Professional League mark that looked really authentic.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
I started on paper first for this logo and brought it into Illustrator and refined it.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I usually use Adobe Illustrator as a starting point for all my logos. Sometimes I start on paper and take my sketches and scan them in to use as guides.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Tobias Frere-Jones’ font “Interstate” was used
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Of course I wanted it to mimic other professional league logos so I stuck with the American color scheme.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
It took me an hour to sketch and idea, and a few hours to complete the logo in Illustrator.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Getting the logo to read the shapes for the Rock, Paper, and Scissors so it was coherent for your brain and still maintained the Gestalt stylistically.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Actually I am supremely pleased with it, which is rare for me being a big perfectionist.
