Interview With Mick Reilly
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
We needed a strong typeface that could be displayed without any imagery. We needed to reflect the word ‘root’ throughout the logo. This was done by having a continuous thick line that never separates until it comes to the ‘leaf’ on the top right-hand corner to make up the letter ‘t’. There is a symmetrical theme to the logo with the letters ‘ro’ flipped to help create the word ‘root’.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I started sketching with paper. working on a mirror effect with the letters ‘r’ and ‘o’.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
The brown relates to the roots/earth theme. The light blue brings a modern and bold feel to it. The colours fall into place on our website.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
To produce a simple, curved and flowing typeface without imagery.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
We’re really happy with the logo. We change the colour now and again, depending on its background.
