Quilting and Applique Shop

Interview With Cassandra Cappello

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

My client wanted something homey, but I honestly just went in a whole other direction with the logo. I did create some that were homey but I just did this one as something different and it’s the one they ended up liking best.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

I used Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

My client drew out an idea depicting a house on paper for me, though the logo ended up looking nothing like it. I just went straight to the computer and started drawing houses in different ways but I happened to also be doing a project on the letter Q and wanted to take the chance to display the logo typographically.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

The ‘Q’ is Baskerville and the rest is Helvetica Neue.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

My client told me from the start they wanted to use pink and brown as their colours, so I just got to choose the exact shades.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

It took a few days for me to create a few different logos, and my client decided on them by the end of the week.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

I thought the homey idea wasn’t working out well for me, which is why I went in a typographic direction.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I don’t really mind the logo itself, I feel like if I have the opportunity to do things all over again then I’d make it completely different
