Polish National Hockey Team

Interview With Wojtek Polak

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

I’m a big fan of hockey and I couldnt stand the look of Polish Team jerseys, so that is why I started to think about the logo and after that I started to work on uniforms and the rest of identity. It is part of my BA Diploma on Graphic Design course.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

First I started with a loose sketching, looking at the National emblem, getting inspirations from the internet. I took some reference pictures of players on the move the same with the eagle. And after that I’ve started designing in vector program, but the first version of the logo wasn’t good so I tried to develop my idea further and this is the final logo.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

This is a modified Naomi Sans – Black Italic.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

The red & white coulors refer to Polish flag. But the design looked flat so I’ve decided to add light gray to the design. The gray refers to eagles feather because it is not always a pure white.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

From the beginning to the final stage on which I am right now… about 1.5 months.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

The biggest challenge was to apply motion and dynamic to the logo which would refer to the sport. The second thing was chosing the type, I couldn’t find the right type to the logo so I’ve decided to modify an existing font.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

Well I dont think so… maybe the kerning in type :)
