Interview With Jonathan Schemoul

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

Pages is an open source CMS where all the objects are pages. Pages can have templates that have some logic inside… For example a blog index is a page showing children pages as articles…

We are used to the navigation metapor about internet, hence the pages powering a ship :)

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Inkscape, and yes I used it for this logo.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Started on Inkscape, seen a lot of ideas here, and after having a bucket load of inspiration started drawing. After a few steps, and some ideas from friends and collaborators on the projet, we had a good logo to start working with.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Got inspiration from Highlander ITC (but modified).

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

We needed a warm feeling while keeping it sunny…

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

This was an early version of the logo, as the ship changed a bit, and the placement of the text changed too…

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

5 hours.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Making the ship look good and realistic while keeping the page feeling.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

Nope, I like it that way… (even if a few more details would be nice)
