OneStepBeyond

Interview With Jared Roberts

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The design was based on the customer’s requirements to emphasize growth and highlight the word “beyond”. I liked the idea for boxes to represent growth.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

The open source software, Inkscape.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

I actually used Pages on the Mac to play around with four different concepts.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Helvetica.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Different shades of blue were preferred by the customer so it would match a color palette selected for their future website.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

It only took a few hours to complete the logo. As is usually the case, the majority of the time was spent making changes to color palette and fonts based on customer feedback. But the idea of the blocks and shapes to represent growth was pretty consistent from the beginning.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

The biggest challenge was using a different color palette than I wanted to.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I would probably use colors with a little more contrast. In addition, I would make the bottom box with the words “One Step” a different color than the middle box with the word “Beyond”.
