Interview With Smarttechnique
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
I was trying to create a ring using the ‘N’ and ‘J’ from the company name but found it difficult so I decided to use jus one part of the N and the whole of the ‘J’ for the bottom half. The ‘C’ was jus a nice little addition to the final design.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
I used Illustrator and didn’t need any other program as the design works best in flat colour.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I was reading an article in Computer Arts Projects about the designer challenge. It was for Northcliffe Jewellery. I found myself sketching different ideas while working on another project. After having this particular idea on concentrated on marrying up the initials. I then scanned it in to the computer and used it as a template in Illustrator.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
As it wasn’t a particular client, it was for fun I kept it black and white to show that it could work in every situation.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Over all it took approximately 20 hours. On and off including tweaks and final touches.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
I found incorporating the ‘n’ the biggest problem because at first I was using a lower case letter as the top part of the isotype.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
I think I would experiment having it in different colours and a background for it.
