Featured LogoInterview With El Cabazares
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
With the use of the iconic symbol for a movie which is a director’s chair and the cliche nerd sign on the back of nerds, pasting this sign would pretty much define movie nerd perfectly. It is simple and direct, since both ideas that i have brought together are already familiar and obvious.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Inkscape. And yes I used it for this very logo. Except when I needed to have an Adobe Illustrator format.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Well I fleshed out ideas with pencil and paper after reading about what the said logo should be about. And then keep on revising until it is baked. From there I finally began to transfer it to the computer. Once it is already in the vector program, I try out colors, position, final designs, styles. This includes the selection of text and its position and style. So from the idea, I just kept on cookin it, once the idea is on its finality I stop and review again.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Century Gothic for the word “movie,” Arial Black for “nerd” and Bitstream Vera Sans for the tagline.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
The color scheme was based on the already existing elements like the post it for nerds and then the color that matches that, well the logo being about movie nerds, it had to have the geeky or loud kind of color to set off an offbeat kind of feel.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Less than half a day, pretty much while I was at work in the afternoon and then a couple of hours once I was at home, maybe around 6 hours
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Perhaps the biggest challenge in designing the logo was to connect the two ideas (movie and nerd) and still make it appear simple and effortless like it already exist or it could exist. Creating a familiar mark or image makes the impact more clear and easily identifiable, i guess getting to this idea was my greatest challenge.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Perhaps, changing its theme by genre, like every month, so it could be updated. Maybe add some elements like a witch hat on Halloween a candy cane or stockings on Christmas something like that.
