Interview With Manuel J Rivera
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
This logo is for my own graphic identity, I’m a freelance graphic & web designer. The concept behind the logo is a simple one: my initials, working as one. This is the refined version of my initials signature, I’ve used it basically all my life and thought it was the best fit for my personal logo.
I wanted it to be clean, simple and very straightforward. I’m really driven my simplicity, minimalism and cleanness, so this logo reflects my line of work.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
It has to be Adobe Illustrator. I use this software for every logo.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I started out drawing the initials by pencil, first drawing each individual letter and then sketched out the possible combinations. I scanned the ones that seemed to have potential and moved on to the software. From there on I tweaked the elements and the final product was made.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
None, hand-drawn letters.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
I went with dark gray for now but really this logo could go with any good two-color scheme.
Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?
These are the three sketches i decided to scan, these are the ones that came the closest to what I had in mind.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
It took about 4 hours with all the sketching and the fine tuning in the software
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
The biggest challenge was definitely to put those three letters together in such a way that could work as one and still be readable.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Not for now :)
