Logo Details

Interview With Travis Johnson
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
I came up with the idea after remembering the “K.I.S.S” method that I learned back in grade school. I kept telling myself K-eep I-t S-imple S-tupid and came up with what you see now. The site is a high end singing competition that concentrates obviously on the vocals being the star of the show. I thought that spotlighting a mic as an icon and accompanying it with mic being bolder or “lit up” that it would make a good pair. I’m pleased with the outcome.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
I use Illustrator for all of my logo designs :)
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I normally sketch then put it to life on Illustrator but for this logo I knew what I was going to do after the initial brainstorming. I thought and then executed which is quite uncommon for me ;)
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Myriad Pro. How glamorous, right? :) I try to steer clear of using fonts that are super main stream but on this logo I feel it worked good.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
The color scheme (shades of grey and white) came off of typical mic colors. I’m also a musician and have owned tons of mics before and they all seem to be shades of grey and my most popular mic has the logo in white. I thought it was the perfect route to go :)
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
It took me about an hour from brainstorming to completion. Normally I take much longer researching, sketching, etc. but this logo came to me pretty quickly and I brought it to life.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
The biggest challenge for this logo, and every logo that I design, is wondering if anyone will like it and if I made it to simplistic. I’ve gotten really good feedback thus far so I can sleep now :)
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
I don’t think I’d change anything but if I did I’d add a touch more detail to the mic itself. I’m going to leave it alone though ;)
