Interview With James Waldner
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
Since this is my personal brand, I had several key ideas that I wanted to incorporate into the design. Lumo comes from the word ‘illuminate’ which is related to light, a great idea which is often cliched as a light bulb. I also wanted the logo to show and abstract ‘L’ and give reference to a target or focusing on a main idea or concept. I felt that the lines to form an ‘L’ would best bring across this idea.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Adobe Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I always start out with a pen and paper. After I got the main concept down, I moved to illustrator and adjusted the design from there.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
It’s a custom font.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
I wanted something to do with light and felt orange was vibrant and looked good. Gives the logo a nice illuminated feeling.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
I worked on developing concepts for app. 6 months. Once I had decided to go for this design, it took about a week until I was satisfied.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Developing a concept that incorporated everything I wanted was challenging. I wanted something unique and strong.
Lumo is more than just web and logo design. I also provide SEO and website hosting. Therefore, the identity was required to work in all these areas.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
I love it and wouldn’t change anything.
