Interview With John Mascarenhas
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
Recently did a brand called cabanah which was a very simple hand sketch of a hut…was looking at it when I realized the similarity between a lion and a hut in terms of the mane vs the thatched roof…
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
CorelDraw and Photoshop. Yes i used both of them. Most of my sketches and coloring are done in PhotoShop as i find the brush tool mighty easy tool to paint…and I import it and vectorized using Corel…
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Almost 99% of time I draw it directly on PhotoShop…unless of course a sudden eureka moment happens while in the restroom ;)
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Avenir Heavy Condensed.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
This was the easy part of this whole process..as I already had a set palette to work with to make the lion look like one ;)
Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
About two and a half hours.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Getting the balance right between the hut and the lion was a tough task. too much of mane, it stopped resembling a hut and too little well it stopped resembling the lion…plus getting the right mix of both a door and a mouth of the lion was a little tough.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Probably work the type a little more :)
