Kyle’s Kayaking Safaris

Interview With John Boerckel

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The company offers kayaking tours through the Florida mangroves. You travel through these large patches of trees and shrubs growing out from the water. So I wanted to convey this idea of traveling straight through a mass of shrubbery.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator. Yes.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Research first, I knew very little about the subject, so this was important. Sketched with pencil and paper. Moved onto designing in Illustrator where playing and rotating shapes came the final design.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Fontin Small Caps.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Natural colors, green…because there’s an obvious relation to greenery.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

A few weeks, my initial ideas weren’t coming across, and so I stopped thinking about it for a little while. When I came back to it the concept and design came together within a couple nights.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Conveying what the company does.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

No, I really think it turned out successful.
