Kangaroo Car Care

Interview With Steve Muth

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The client wanted something reminiscent of the Quantas Airline logo, but with it’s own style. We wanted to portray a sense of speed, grace and sleekness.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Illustrator CS4.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

In my studio I have a dry-erase board which I warmly call my “trial-and-error” board. I play with ideas in large scale until two or three solve the problems evident to each design. I then transfer the large scale from the board to actual scale in a rough hand sketch. Once I have a few I like, I then transfer onto the iMac.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Impact & Century Gothic.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

After much deliberation between myself and the client, we came to the red, black, grey scheme. We wanted good contrast with an activating color.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

Design-wise, about 4 – 5 total hours. Time wise with client meetings, about three weeks of deliberating.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Visually translating an association of a typically playful animal to a sleek, “driven” look without looking overworked.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

The logo has been somewhat commercialized from the original rendition. We’ve added the “KCC” and the sub-heading as he needs to build name awareness. Once he’s accomplished this in his area, we’ll remove the “KCC” and the sub-header (maybe swap to a more stand-alone font.
