Hawthorne Plumbing

Interview With Angie Herrera

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

It was a collaboration between the client and I. He really wanted a retro feel, so I went with an older style pipe wrench and more muted colors.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator of course!

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

The process began with the client. We talked about what his ultimate goal for the logo’s look/feel were and any specific symbols he wanted to include. From there I dove into several thumbnail sketches of ideas, refinement of a few of them in Illustrator, presentation of the best concepts to the client and revising and refining from there. A more detailed process can be read here: http://420creative.com/portfolio/detail/hawthorne_plumbing/

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

It was partly based on the more retro feel the client wanted (i.e., more muted colors), and partly based on wanting to incorporate colors that aren’t as predictable or obvious for a plumbing company (such as reds and bright blues).

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

The entire process took just over a month.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

The biggest challenge was really nailing the look/feel that the client wanted.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I would probably change the typeface, but the client is happy with the logo so it shall stay as it is. :)
