Interview With Vanesa Merulla

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

My client and I wanted to make sure that we didn’t have a pregnant figure in the logo, as most of the competitors sites do. As my client likes lotus flowers, I suggested to use it in the design to suggest the bringing up of children.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

I usually go straight to the computer—it’s easier for me. However, the crucial part to start my designs is the first conversation with my clients. From it, I get a sense of what they like or don’t and exactly what their businesses are about.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Handwriting Dakota

Gill Sans Std.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

The colors were chosen with my client; we had a hard time deciding the exact green and brown.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

About a week.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Coming up with the right illustration of the lotus flower to be incorporated to the type as natural as possible!
