Firestarter

Interview With Michael Spitz

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

I started out with a smoldering match, and the Firestarter ‘F’ just jumped off the table..!

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop CS4.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

I started out as I usually do with a pen and paper. However, most of the sketches for this guy were actually done in Photoshop. I appreciate the ability to rearrange things on the page as I draw them…

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

‘Ronnia Extra Bold Italic’ with slight modifications.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Since the mark plays off of a ‘real world’ visual, the color scheme flowed together fairly easily. While getting the exact hues required a good deal of fooling around, I knew from the get go this wanted something bold.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

Sketches done in Photshop.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

About 2 weeks…

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Working in the desired level of detail, while maintaining an iconic visual.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

Nothing that I can put my finger on… I’m very happy with it.
