Featured LogoInterview With Fabian Marchinko
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
I was asked to come up with a concept for a carpentry and milling company. Calling upon my days in woodworking class at school I needed to recall on the old rust memory banks. As the companies name was “Finishing Touch” it got me thinking about different woodworking joints, in a moment of clarity the miter joint was chosen. I tend to like clever plays on words and images so the woodpecker was the obvious choice for me, as the little bugger is always pecking away just like a carpenter.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I always try to do rough sketches first.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Never got to that stage.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Wanted the feeling of wood.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
3 days researching, then 1 day to draw and digitize.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Trying to get that bloody woodpecker to sit right.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Yes, the miter joint is a tad off. The client for this project did a runner so it was never finished…so anyone want a super cool logo…drop me a line.
