Evil Eye

Interview With Patrick Doyle

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The concept was based on the idea of ‘the shape is iconic’. The design needed to remain relatively simple in order to be embroidered onto clothing and equipment whilst retaining a sense of complexity.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator CS5.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Rough sketches followed by a series of digital mockups, slowly refining and working towards a polished design.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Bespoke typeface.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

The client wanted a to convey a ‘powerful’ impression, so black and red was an instant success.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

Including logo variations and deliverable, in the region of 4 full days work.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Designing the bespoke typeface.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

Spend more time developing the typeface now that I have designed a set of additional text-graphics for the client.
