Interview With Angus Griffin
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
Well I wanted to come up with something clever yet simple. The company that deals with personal Global Telepresence. Specialising in, in the cloud hosted audio, web or video conferencing. So my idea was to combine two “D’s”, meeting together in the middle, which then formed an “M” in the negative space.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
All in Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Yep got the pen(cil) and paper out and spent most of my time getting that down and right. Once I had few good concrete ideas and thoughts, turned to the computer and started creating it!
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
For this I used VAG Rounded in light and heavy… I wanted to echo and balance against the rounded edges of the icon.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Well the client had the original logo in blue, however it was a tired and dated blue, so we brought into the 21st century. Also psychologically blue has positive attributes of intelligence, communication, trust and efficiency, which are relate to their business and the core values.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Well most of the time was spent in the sketching stage, so when I got onto the computer, creating it in Illustrator only took a couple of hours.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Bringing through the clever idea I had in my head, whilst trying to convey what the business did (albeit in an abstract way), and all the while keeping it clean and simple.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
Mmmm, probably not – but if anything I might tweak the angle of the icon, so it showed the M in the negative space more!
