Interview With Matthew Haeck
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
The client requested the swing and moon as two possible elements. They also wanted the bold primary colors to convey their childcare field. Stars were also requested to signify a new statewide “star ranking” system that has recently been implemented in the area.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I began with a list of elements they were considering. The moon was important to include, but they also wanted a large willow tree with a swing and child. Since those were a few too many elements to include (with the words also), we narrowed it down to a swing w/ child hanging from the moon. Having a large circle with a swing hanging down wouldn’t be cohesive, so a quarter moon w/ the swing inside seemed to be the perfect resolution.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Passion One (horizontally shrunk) and Arial for the byline.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Primary colors were requested. Since the moon would need to be yellow, blue gave the most contrast / impact so it was used for the name, and green for the byline.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Narrowing all the elements down to something manageable while also including all the wording required.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
I might tone down the green byline, but all things considered – I think it met the clients needs and will remain as a clear base for any future branding.
