Interview With Logoholik
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
When my friend Nikola from haragei.com approached me to help him redesign ChessEmpires.com brand, I’ve told him that i actually like current design, as it feels really appropriate for the given goals and atmosphere. Main task was to keep the medieval battle atmosphere, while transforming logo to something more usable in various applications, with main focus on actual website and task to make logo more compact. Utilizing appropriate typography and combining main elements from old logo, i think i produced decent wordmark which can serve for long time.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
Since i already had an idea what to do with it, sketching part was not conducted here. All the work was done directly in Illustrator.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Typography is based Mason font. It was a superb starting point for right kind of message/atmosphere.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
Wanted to give it a fresh/bright look while still keeping goldish medieval atmosphere.
Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
Transforming the message from the old (pretty good if you ask me) logo to a new one, but with less details and more compact.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
It seems that it works really well, hence nope :)
