Interview With Lukasz Ruszel

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

It was the result of a gradual simplification of an archetypical Roman warrior profile. I have started out with much more detailed representations of a centurion and then, step by step, eliminated everything that wasn’t absolutely necessary for his recognition. Final result is a geometric construction that combines my findings with rewarding minimalism.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Corel Draw.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

It was pen and paper (lots of it), then some vectors, more sketches in my notebook, and development of the most satisfactory concept on the computer.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Modified Futura.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

This element was mostly client input. He really wanted to include gold elements, while neutral black/white were natural additions regarding the briefing (classy, restrained brand).

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

5 weeks.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Creating something that is very different from other centurion-themed logo designs already in place. My initial research revealed that it a suprisingly popular subject.
