Branch of Hope

Interview With Paul

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

A lot of sketching. The name of the church provided the inspiration.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Started out in the sketchbook, did a lot of drawing for the mark. Spent quite a bit of time in the fontbook app, then moved to illustrator.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Gotham Black, Medium, and Light

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Haven’t totally finalized a color scheme. I chose this dark blue/grey to add more weight to the logo.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

About 20 hours (I guess).

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Church logos are very hard to do well, I really didn’t want to use cliché images (a cross, olive branch, bird, etc.), I tried going abstract, but ended up sketching a branch (could be an olive) that I didn’t hate.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I really wanted to find a serif font that complemented Gotham well to use for the “Orthodox Presbyterian Church” portion of the logo.
