Interview With Bold Perspective

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

We wrestled with ideas for days and tried many paths. We explored only typographic, abstract icons, iconic, illustrations, and everything in between. My wife suggested the idea of a half full cup to focus on idea of ‘perspective’ and we fell in love.

How do you see the cup? Half full? Half empty? We see and opportunity to fill the cup.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator CS5.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

We started with pencil and paper, but moved quickly to Illustrator. We were on opposite sides of town while making the logo and found it easier to collaborate by just sending .pngs back and forth via Dropbox.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Avenir.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

We ran down primary, secondary, and tertiary colors and thought about the different meanings behind each color – most were eliminated then. The remaining colors, among which were red, black, white, green, blue, and orange, we talked about for a while – pondering the meaning of each and what we wanted to be.

We ended up with black and red for the bold nature of the colors and green for the unusual and energetic nature of the color.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

There were many, many different versions during the sketching process, but these four sum up the largest turning points throughout the evolution of the logo.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

We spent well over a week on the logo. It was an intensive, hair pulling, and fun experience.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

The biggest challenge was coming up with the core concept. Once we decided on the cup idea, the logo fell into place bit by bit, version by version. Most the versions and details were tossed out easily and quickly and we were in agreement every step of the way. It was quite a fun process.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

We couldn’t be happier with it. We don’t even want to think about this!
