Bay Area Science Festival

Interview With LukeSF

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

Was going through science symbols and decided for a lab flask. Then came and idea of integrating different science elements into it.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

As always, Illustrator CS4.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

Yeah, it all started with sketches, then shape it out in illustrator and science elements were added directly in Illustrator in the process of fine-tuning.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Astro 867.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

Orange was a requirement since the festival is to take place on autumn, and blue was quite natural match for a bay festival.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

Those are the sketches of Illustrator process… from initial through the final versions and a B&W version to check whether the logo is still appealing and easy to percept.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

About 10 days.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

To keep all elements recognizable.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

I’ve got several of versions and each has something on its own… Maybe try and combine all of them into one? :)
