Barcamp Savannah 2011

Barcamp Savannah 2011

Interview With Bill Kenney

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

Savannah is a very old town with a great railroad history. We wanted to touch on a local iconic element without having to use the normal tourist trap icons. A train was a new twist on an old town.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

This was a very long process that went through many stages. We started out with a more stream lined Barcamp Logo and it evolved into the logo you see now. We juggled many ideas, human icons to touch on the nature of the event, drinking icons to play off the word Bar and Savannah’s crazy downtown life. At the end of the day the train had more visual power then anything else so we ran with it.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Rockwell.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

We started with all black to nail down the design and it just seemed correct so we stuck with it.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

2 weeks.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

Finding the iconic element to base it around.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

At this point I would not change anything.
