Interview With Jippy Rinaldi

Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?

The idea came up with what is best visual identity to represent the chef. Both we and client agree to develop a signature style logotype instead a logo mark.

Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.

Adobe Illustrator CS3.

Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?

The process begin with sketching interesting flow for each character. And the one-by-one place them into one another. the sketching process took 2 days until we found the perfect flow to start. The sketch scanned and traced in Illustrator. In Illustrator, we do the whole refinement process. From kerning, shape and structure. It took 5 days to complete, including the color palette selection.

Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?

Custom. Rockwell for brand descriptor.

Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?

We create 10 color palette and select one which suit the best.

Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?

It was a shortest sketch process among other project. Short of lucky shot. Glad the client like it.

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?

10 days.

Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?

When client asked specifically for a logotype, we find trouble in decision whether using a calligraphy or elegant custom serif.

Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?

We’re thinking to change the typeface for the descriptor. But for now we’re focused on developing a pattern to be used in print collateral.
