Interview With Joe White
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
I took to Google, looked up the 53 element in the periodic table. Took the pattern of rings from this logo ’2, 8, 18 , 18, 7’. The natural world is pretty good at working out the symmetry for dots. Then after spending the whole afternoon working on dot to dot drawings, well I was simply inspired to draw the Lab Flask.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
Flash CS3, with a sprinkle of Photoshop.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I love atoms, so this one was in my head as soon as I heard the name.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
Archive, I’ve gone through a wide selection to find something which balanced the fun and serious sides to this logo.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
It’s the year of Tangerine Tango, so I feel for the current season these colours will work, having done this with a gradient will allow for transition in the future when moving towards Emerald Green.
Q:Do you have any sketches of the logo in the early stages?
I made this to explain my thought process and to demonstrate the unique and special ability’s Flash has over other design software.
There’s a Samurai quote, Something alone the lines of knowing how to use the tools can sometimes be more effective than actually using the correct tools…

Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
Around 2 hours, I posted my excitement for this logo to my feed, Once i had executed the design roughly 2 hours had passed. In total I’ve spent 10 hours working with various extra designs to make sure i had everything covered.
