Interview With Robert Fear
Q:Where did the idea for this logo come from?
The client approached me with the task of creating an icon to represent comedian Bob Smiley. After spending some time with Bob Smiley I chose to portray the logo in a fun fashion. I wanted the logo to work across multiple platforms from posters to t-shirts.
Q:What application did you use to design this logo? E.g., Illustrator.
I used Adobe Illustrator CS5.
Q:What was your design process for this logo? I.e., Did you start out with pen and paper then move to the computer?
I spent some time researching and spending time with Bob Smiley before starting the process to get a good feel on how to best represent him. Next I did some sketch proofs and got feed back on what worked and what did not. Then its was just a matter of vectoring and getting the right type.
Q:What font(s) were used in the logo?
I used the font Duke.
Q:How did you choose the color scheme for the logo?
I had to have the comedians trademark red hair so I build the color palette around to complement.
Q:How long did it take to complete the logo?
All together it took me a week of working back and forth with the client to complete.
Q:What do you feel was your biggest challenge in designing the logo?
To me it was making the logo work across the multiple platforms.
Q:Now that the logo is finished, is there anything you would change about it?
No, not really… I’m pretty happy with the way everything turned out. Maybe if I was being picky I probably would have gone with a different color scheme than the client ended up going with.
